    Today we added a honey super to Hive #1. This will give the bees more space and places to store honey.

    The bees are starting to collect excess nectar and storing it in the honey super. New bees are hatching. Lower than expected egg laying.

    Slowly growing. New bees are emerging from their cells, the hive looks hungry, very little nectar is being stored on the edges, no eggs were found, indicating expansion is stalling out. Time to give a little assist.

    Today we inspected Hive #2. This hive is the larger one, with a new package of bees. They have been in the hive for a few weeks. The bees released the queen in a few days, and have taken well to their new environment. The hive is growing quickly and seems to be doing well.

    We inspected Hive 1. This hive is the smaller one, in a previous post, we showed off the queen. The hive is growing and seems to be doing well in the cool and rainy Ohio spring.

    Notes: May 2nd 2024 Hive #1 Here is a video clip of our queen bee going about her day. She is the really long looking bee. I tried to point her out at the start of the clip. Other bees will kindly move out of her way, and give her some space while she moves…
